Durian and other fruits

Monday December 6 - When we visited in 2005, we weren’t able to find fresh durian fruit. Some of you might be thinking that’s a good thing, given how much it smells and how strong it tastes, but once you develop a taste for it, it’s one of the most delicious fruits you can find – so unique!

Anyway, we’re visiting about one month later than we did in 2005, and this time Durian are readily available at every roadside stall. Tis the season!

There are a few other fruits I’m trying for the first time too, including Persimmon (soft and sweet), Guava (crisp and tart), and another juicy fruit called Shui Oong (sp?) – we don’t know the English name – that looks like a red pear.

Tropical fruit in Canada is so tasteless by comparison.
