Having a local boy ask if your boyfriend is a ladyboy - priceless

First night in Siem Reap and, after a couple of beers at our hotel restaurant, we decided to head out to a nearby restaurant for some dinner and to get a sense of the town. It’s small and walkable, but there are tons of foreigners crowding the main streets. Truth told, the restaurant area felt a bit like Ottawa’s Byward market, only warm.

Anyway, as we were waiting for our meal, a precocious local boy came up to us selling postcards – a pretty common sight in Cambodia, but this boy was really bright. His English was very good and, more impressively, when he found out we were from Canada, he started reciting facts about our country, like the capital, the population, politics... very smart.

Junkii made conversation with him as he continued to try to convince us to buy his postcards. When he suggested that Junkii buy some for his girlfriend, Junkii announced that he didn’t have a girlfriend and, pointing to me said, “I have a boyfriend.”

Then came the question: “Are you a ladyboy?!” I almost keeled over with laughter.
