Friday, December 25 – After a fantastic Christmas day spent roaming through the ruins of Angkor, we decided to treat ourselves to a proper Christmas dinner – a little roast beast (or some deep fried dirty bird at any rate). That’s right – we found the only KFC in Siem Reap and indulged.
We even had all the trimmings:
- Mashed potatoes with gravy: used instead of French fries in Asian KFCs
- Salad: or cabbage salad in any case
- Candied Yams: okay, not really yams – something called cheesy chick-a-roni. It was macaroni, popcorn chicken, and cheese. And yeah, it sounds disgusting, but it actually turned out to be better than it sounded.
We’re not proud of our actions – after all, it’s an expensive trip to take just to have a feed of fast food that we could easily get at home – but by the same token, it was nice to have a bit of home on Christmas night.
