Breakdown

Saturday, December 26 – Every so often life throws you a curve, and you get a story to tell the grandkids. The Angkor tour itself has been a fantastic and unforgettable experience, but it took a broken motorcycle chain to turn it into a tale we’ll tell over and over again.

After rising at 4:30am in the pitch black, we set off with our tour guide and tuktuk driver to see the sun rise over Angkor Wat. We just got through the Park entrance and showed our passes to the park police when the tuktuk chain broke. And we were still 10 minutes drive from the temple!

The driver tried to fix the problem, but once he found it was a broken chain we knew we had to make other arrangements. The tour guide called in a favour from the park police and one of them agreed to drive the three of us (Junkii, Me, and the Guide) to the temple entrance – on a dirtbike.

That’s right. 4 people on a motorbike! We became one of those families you see on FailBlog! It was a tight fit, to say the least – and a little frightening considering the officer drove quickly (still in the dark) and none of us had helmets – but what a memory!

  1. It sure felt like it - although we were just glad to have the ride. It would be a shame to come all that way (and to get up so early) only to miss the sunrise because of a broken motorcycle chain.
