Tuesday, December 22 - Museums housing historical artefacts aren’t really my cup of tea, but Junkii likes them – plus this museum is on the “must see” list – so we stopped into the National museum after we finished with the Palace grounds.
Evidently the museum was started by Pol Pot to preserve Khmer culture – so it seems he wasn’t 100% evil. Only 99.9%.
The antiquities housed here are really quite beautiful, but many of them have been taken from elsewhere in Cambodia, including quite a few pieces taken from Angkor. Those pieces sort of turned out to be the highlights for me, more because they made me even more anxious to see the temples at Angkor.
Again, we weren’t allowed to use a camera inside this building, but the building itself is quite nice.
